The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) is a public research facility in Faisalabad, Pakistan.

The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, which is situated in the Punjab province of Pakistan, has taken the name of the former Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute. It was established in 1906 and was the first notable college for advanced agricultural education in the then-undivided Punjab.

In 2009, the vice chancellor of the institution said:

We are the leaders in this field and have a particular mandate because Faisalabad was chosen by our colonial rulers to establish an agriculture university because it was the first one on the subcontinent. Faisalabad was chosen because it was wedged between two canals.

History

When Pakistan gained independence in 1947, it was mostly an agricultural country. Even with the nation's later development and prosperity, agriculture continues to be a key component of its economy. Pakistan's government created the National Commissions on Food and Education after the country attained independence to overhaul the nation's agrarian system and create strategies for boosting agricultural potential.

The commissioners argued in favor of founding an agricultural university that would conduct both instruction and research. As a result, in 1961, the previous Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute was modernized. This was the first university the British Empire established. After the plans were accepted, Sir Louis Dane, the Punjab's governor at the time, lay the cornerstone. The institution was founded in 1909. The main campus is roughly 2 kilometers from the city's clock tower and center (12 kilometers northeast of the Faisalabad International Airport). The ancient campus is reminiscent of traditional Muslim architecture, whereas the current campus is green and made up of a variety of monolithic blocks built in a modern manner.

The university features a zoology museum, art gallery, and university library.

Male and female dorms are available at the institution, including the Muhammad Ali Jinnah-inspired Jinnah Hostel, Iqbal Hall, Fatima Jinnah Hostel, and Hailey Hall. It can accommodate 12,000-day scholars and about 15,000 full-time students.

Additionally, it contains faculties for food sciences, home economics, animal husbandry, agricultural engineering and technology, and food nutrition. a community college located on the main campus of Faisalabad. Previously associated with the College of Veterinary Sciences in Lahore, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) is now a separate organization.

Undergraduate and graduate studies in agriculture and related subjects are offered by these departments. HEC has named the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, as Pakistan's top university for agricultural and veterinary education. Among the top 10 universities in Pakistan, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad was ranked as the fourth-best institution.

Faculty of Agriculture

Agricultural Entomology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Plant Pathology, Crop Physiology, Forestry, and Wildlife & Range Management are the six departments that make up this university.

There are three organizations: the Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences, the Institute of Horticultural Sciences, and the National Institute of Food Science and Technology.

There are seven linked fields: animal sciences, computer science, mathematics, marketing & agribusiness, agricultural extension, agriculture economics, and statistics in the Center for Agricultural Biochemistry and Biotechnology, or the CABB or U.S. Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security in Pakistan,

Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology

Engineering departments for food, farm equipment, irrigation and drainage, structural and environmental engineering, and power and fiber technologies are all part of the faculty. Coursework can be used to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering, Food Engineering, or Textile Technology. as well as a doctor of philosophy in both agricultural engineering and fiber technology.

Agricultural Engineering and Technology Department was established in 1961. The main objective of the faculty was to train individuals to address the expanding need for mechanized farming in Punjab.

Engineering in the Food Division

The department started taking on new students in 2011–12. The goal of the food engineering department is to train students to become engineers of safe, superior, and reasonably priced food products and processes to prepare them for professions in the food business.

Administration for Agricultural Power

This department, together with other departments, offers a bachelor's program in Agricultural Engineering.

Department of Fiber and Textile Technology

The Department of Fiber Technology was created in the Faculty of Agriculture Engineering & Technology in 1964.

This department's main objective is to give students the scientific knowledge and technological training they need to meet industry demands in the areas of fiber science, textile technology (spinning, knitting, dyeing, finishing, testing & quality control), pulp, paper, and cardboard technology. A master's program in fiber technology is only offered by this department in the entire country.

Faculty of Veterinary Science

Among the departments represented on the faculty are the Department of Anatomy,[9] Institute of Pharmacy Physiology and Pharmacology, Pathology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Clinical Medicine and Surgery, and Theriogenology. Graduate admittance in non-clinical professions is given attention to those with biological science degrees.

For the degrees of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. ), Pharm.D., and M.Phil., the institution provides entrance tests. before accepting new students. as well as doctorates. Professor Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi is the dean.

Faculty of Social Sciences

The departments of Agricultural Economics, Farm Management, Agricultural Marketing, Cooperation and Credit, and Rural Sociology made up the original faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, which was established in 1963.

The departments of Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, and Environmental & Resource Economics were brought together to form the Institute of Agricultural & Resource Economics (IARE). Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq has been the founding director of IARE since June 2012.

The Faculty of Social Sciences is made up of the following institutions:

Faculty of Animal Husbandry

The faculty includes the Department of Animal Nutrition, the Department of Poultry Science, the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, and the Department of Livestock Management. It offers B.Sc.

It provides research facilities on livestock, poultry, and their products to university departments as well as consultancy services to producers of livestock and poultry. programs for postgraduates leading to the M.Sc. Each of the four departments within the faculty grants master's and doctoral degrees. Prof. Dr. M. Sajjad Khan is the dean.

Science School

Among the departments represented in the faculty are Botany, Zoology and Fisheries, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, Business Management Sciences, Computer Science, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Islamic Studies.

It offers graduate programs in botany, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, statistics, computer science, business management, commerce, and undergraduate programs in the physical, biological, and social sciences.

Admission to programs leading to the M.Sc. is granted to pure science graduates from other institutions. also an M.Phil. degrees. as well as doctorates. Graduates who hold the required bachelor's degree may also apply for admission to the M.Com. and MBA programs. diploma courses. Munir Ahmad Sheikh, dean of the faculty, is in charge.

Rural Development and Agricultural Extension Institute

Most of the previous Division of Education & Extension is now part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Currently serving as the director of the Faculty of Social Sciences' Institute of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development is Tanvir Ali, a former member of the Graduate Studies and Division of Education and Extension.

Rural sociology, population science, gender studies, agricultural extension, agricultural education, agricultural information (mass communication), and rural development are some of the subjects covered by the institute. There are both graduate-level and B.Sc.-level courses available. M.Sc., M.Sc.(Hons.), and Ph.D. degrees in agriculture with an emphasis on agricultural extension.

A quarterly agricultural newspaper is published for farmers. To inform, educate, and entertain the general public as well as propagate agricultural developments throughout farming communities, the group started broadcasting on FM Radio 100.4 on August 14, 2012.

Research

As of 2017, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad was Pakistan's largest agricultural research university, making it a key center for research. Billion dollars are given to it for research and development.

It has incorporated cutting-edge agriculture practices. The institution features two state-of-the-art laboratories for scientific research. It works in conjunction with the University of California, Davis on research and exchange initiatives. Studies have been carried out since at least 1925 when studies on cotton plants began.

The college was the only institution of any kind operating in Pakistan at the time that was pursuing agricultural research.

The University of Agriculture Press

This is the college's academic publishing house. The majority of the scholarly books, journals, and textbooks it publishes are written by academics and students at universities.

Sub-campuses

A campus offshoot called Burewala Vehari

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad developed a satellite campus in Burewala District Vehari to increase agricultural research across the country, notably in the south of Punjab.

A campus offshoot called Toba Tek Singh

To study the chicken industry, the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad opened a branch campus in Toba Tek Singh on June 5, 2005.[12] A four-year B.Sc. The study of poultry is taught on this site. The institute's director is Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed from the Centre of Agricultural Biochemistry and Biotechnology (CABB).

This effort was started in 2009. F.Sc. (Pre-Agriculture) The two-year program at UAF Community College, which is situated on PARS Campus, Jhang Road, adjacent to the Faisalabad International Airport. M.Sc./M.Sc. There are four semesters of (Hons.) coursework available in 35 topics following the completion of a first-degree study.

M.Phil. Four semesters of pure science are available in five subjects after receiving an M.Sc. in the relevant region.

Following completion of an M.Sc., a Ph.D. is available in 28 subjects across four semesters. in the relevant region.

The institution offers evening courses in M.B.A. (Regular and Executive) and M.Com. & M.Sc. Physics, fiber technology, botany, zoology, chemistry, biochemistry, statistics, computer science, and home economics (food and nutrition).

The division offers 124 courses that can be taken for certifications and certificates, with courses specifically designed for women that focus on the disciplines and abilities that are specific to them.
